Purchasing, running and maintaining an air conditioning system can be costly and it will become a permanent feature in your home for several years to come so please take the time to read the information below as it will help you make an informed decision ensuring both immediate satisfaction as well as the best long term benefits for you.
Refrigerant Gases
Air-conditioners use one of two refrigerants: R410a and R22.
R410a is the newest technology available and is highly efficient, so the air-conditioner will use less power to produce the same result. Thus an R410a unit will ultimately save electricity and help to reduce global warming.
R22 is an older refrigerant and is banned in Europe. The refrigerant destroys ozone, but the technology is substantially cheaper than R410a. Thus an R22 unit will be cheaper but will use more power and ultimately contribute to ozone layer destruction.
The more responsible choice is R410a. If unsure of the refrigerant being used, check the data plate on the side of a unit.
